A chance to win business funds
Are you a freelancer who can prove your entrepreneurial worth? If so, and your business is relatively new – or even still in your head – a new competition from telecoms and media giant Virgin could be for you.
Virgin Media Pioneers, an online community for young entrepreneurs supported by the company, has launched a search for the next generation of business leaders. The competition, which will see entrepreneurs pitch their ideas to Virgin Media boss Sir Richard Branson, offers a prize £5,000 of investment in a new company, plus ongoing business support.
To enter, you must be over 18 and a UK resident with a UK-based business that is either in the pre-launch stage or its first two years of trading. You also have to be a registered Virgin Media Pioneer (you can register for free at www.virginmediapioneers.com). The closing date for entries is 30 April.
Eight entrepreneurs will make a short-list facing a public vote. The top four will then be invited to Sir Richard’s home in Oxfordshire, where they’ll be asked to pitch to an audience of business bosses for a share of the £5,000. They’ll also get free advice from the chief executives and managing directors at the event.
Neil Berkett, chief executive of Virgin Media, says: “With the power of the internet we can support entrepreneurs on their journey. This particular competition is an incredible opportunity which could transform the business ideas of the lucky winners.”
